Brycen Tremayne delivered the longest offensive play for the Carolina Panthers during their preseason game against the Houston Texans on Saturday, making a catch of more than 20 yards. The play occurred on a second-and-18 from the Panthers’ 38-yard line, when quarterback Jack Plummer connected with Tremayne over the middle.

“It was just a little, like a little post breaking route,” explained Tremayne following the game. “I saw the middle of the field was open, so I kept it pretty thin, and Jack threw a great ball right on my chest.”

Tremayne said he anticipated contact from Texans safety Russ Yeast as he made his way toward the first down marker. “I saw that hit come too, so I just protected the ball a little bit, but yeah, Jack threw a great ball to me.”

This marked Tremayne’s second notable play of the week against Houston. In Thursday’s joint practice session with the Texans, he caught a 41-yard pass from Bryce Young during a two-minute drill.

The Panthers’ receiving group features several experienced players and emerging talent. With Jalen Coker sidelined by illness earlier in the week, Tremayne took advantage of extra opportunities with three catches for 46 yards on Saturday.

Reflecting on his career path—from walking on at Stanford to entering the NFL as an undrafted free agent—Tremayne discussed how his approach has changed over time. “I mean, I was, I walked on at Stanford, and so I automatically started at the bottom when I got to Stanford,” Tremayne recalled. “And there were a few injuries, and then I worked my way into special teams and the offense, so I think maybe I put a little bit more pressure on myself when I first got into the league.”

He joined Washington as an undrafted rookie in 2023 and spent two years on their practice squad before coming to Charlotte this spring while recovering from injury. Now with Carolina, Tremayne says he is focusing less on external pressures.

“When I was sidelined with the injury, I knew that I would start from the bottom again,” Tremayne shared. “But I try not to put too much pressure on myself like ‘I got to do this, this, and this.’ Because I feel like I did that in the past couple of years, and it’s just, it’s not really that good mentally, just thinking about every little thing.

“So I just kind of try to be relaxed and make the plays that come my way, and I don’t really, I don’t try to think too much about like, which guys are in front of me you know am i going to make team because i feel like its not helping them to like think like that

“You put so much pressure on yourself, and i feel like now its just like go out there and make plays whatever happens happens you know its deep room so if i make it ill make it if dont then you know try again”

Tremayne has contributed both as receiver and special teams player during camp. Head coach Dave Canales stated after Saturday’s game that starters will not play next week against Pittsburgh—a decision likely giving players such as Tremayne further chances ahead of final roster decisions.

“I mean we have so many great receivers in this room,a few veteran guys lot young guys,” said Tremayne.”So just, you know when play comes my way,i try make most it,every opportunity get”
