At 6-foot-6 and 328 pounds, Cam Jackson stands out among his teammates. His imposing figure and swift first step make him a formidable presence during the Carolina Panthers’ rookie minicamp. Despite his size, Jackson is known for his humility and desire to learn from seasoned players.

“I want to be under and just be under their wing, not only as a teammate but also as a little brother as well,” said Jackson after Saturday’s practice session.

Jackson looks up to Derrick Brown and A’Shawn Robinson, both accomplished defensive linemen with significant experience in the SEC. Brown is a Pro Bowler who made his mark at Florida, while Robinson is an Alabama standout with a Super Bowl win under his belt.

“I try to pick (DB’s brain) a lot, just talking to him,” Jackson shared. “I actually texted him and told him, you know, him and A’Shawn Robinson… I’m going to be around them guys picking their brain.”

Though primarily a defensive tackle, Jackson has demonstrated versatility on the field with 69 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 2 sacks, and four passes defended over two years at Florida. He attributes his success to being ready for opportunities.

“I say just extra effort,” explained Jackson about playing from the tackle position. “So just extra effort.”

As he transitions into the NFL, Jackson will also learn from Shy Tuttle at the tackle position. He understands that adapting to professional football will take time but remains eager to grow within the team.

“(My family) always call me Big Cam,” he mentioned regarding how Panthers fans can address him. With excitement surrounding his new role in Carolina, he’s embracing the nickname “Carolina Cam.”

Jackson is prepared to absorb knowledge from veteran players while introducing himself to Panthers supporters as “Carolina Cam.”
