Charlotte FC is set to face LA Galaxy in a late-night Major League Soccer matchup at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California. The match is scheduled for 10:30 p.m. ET.

Charlotte FC comes into this game after drawing with St. Louis CITY SC in its season opener, with Pep Biel scoring the equalizer in the 70th minute. The LA Galaxy have already played three matches this season, including a win over Sporting San Miguelito in the Concacaf Champions Cup and a draw against New York City FC.

The importance of earning points on the road was highlighted by Charlotte’s performance last season, where missing out on just one point cost them a spot in the Concacaf Champions Cup and a higher position in the Eastern Conference standings. Since joining Major League Soccer as an expansion franchise in 2022, Charlotte has increased its points total on the road each year, reaching six away wins during the 2025 season. The club participates in MLS’s Eastern Conference and is based in Charlotte, North Carolina according to their official website.

Head coach Dean Smith said that midfielder Pep Biel will continue to play a key role for Charlotte after his recent goal against St. Louis CITY SC. Biel had 22 goal contributions across 26 matches last year and was among only eleven players league-wide to reach double digits in both goals and assists.

The upcoming match presents different challenges compared to Charlotte’s previous opponent. The LA Galaxy are led by head coach Greg Vanney and feature experienced players such as Joseph Paintsil, Gabriel Pec, and new Designated Player João Klauss. Midfielder Riqui Puig will not be available for LA due to injury.

Defensively, LA is anchored by Jakob Glesnes—who joined from Philadelphia Union—and Justin Haak, who previously faced Charlotte during last year’s playoffs. Defender Emiro Garces will miss the match due to suspension after receiving two yellow cards.

Smith noted that while New York City FC managed to frustrate LA’s defense recently, “The Crown should look to attack their defense harder and threaten their goal.” With changes expected both tactically and personnel-wise for this game, Charlotte may adjust its approach given that LA typically allows more possession than other teams.

Charlotte Football Club continues its efforts to improve results on the road as it seeks better positioning within Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference.[source]
