For much of the match, FC Cincinnati appeared to be in control and close to securing a win. However, several key moments shifted the outcome in favor of Charlotte Football Club. A foul by Brian Anunga on Djibril Diani, strong goalkeeping from Kristijan Kahlina, and an 85th-minute volley by Wilfried Zaha led Charlotte FC to victory.

Despite mixed results earlier in the 2025 Leagues Cup and the loss of midfielder Pep Biel, Charlotte FC achieved its fifth consecutive Major League Soccer win. Kristijan Kahlina, who is the reigning Goalkeeper of the Year, made seven saves during the game against FC Cincinnati, including a crucial stop in the final minute that preserved a clean sheet. This was Kahlina’s seventh shutout of the season.

Wilfried Zaha stepped up for Charlotte FC while filling in for Pep Biel. Zaha scored with a volley that marked his ninth straight match with either a goal or an assist.

This win marks Charlotte FC’s fourth road victory this season and begins an important nine-match stretch leading up to the playoffs. The team will return home to face Real Salt Lake at Bank of America Stadium on August 16 as they aim to extend their record winning streak.
