Charlotte FC experienced their fourth consecutive defeat in a match against Orlando, ending with a score of 3-1. Despite several promising moments in their attack, Charlotte was unable to capitalize on opportunities to change the outcome.
The team switched to a 3-4-3 formation, allowing Wilfried Zaha to find dangerous positions and contribute significantly to the offensive play. However, the team’s inability to convert chances into goals was evident as they ended with an expected goals (xG) statistic of 1.3 compared to Orlando’s 0.9.
Orlando’s early pressure resulted in Luis Muriel exploiting space in Charlotte’s defense, scoring a goal in the eighth minute. Martin Ojeda extended Orlando’s lead with a powerful shot after a deflection, bringing the score to 2-0 by the 24th minute.
Zaha provided hope for Charlotte by scoring in the 34th minute after skillful interplay allowed him to shoot from the top of the box. His effort brought Charlotte closer at halftime.
Patrick Agyemang was introduced at the start of the second half and posed challenges for Orlando’s defense. Although Charlotte created numerous opportunities, none sufficiently tested Orlando goalkeeper Pedro Gallese. Pep Biel narrowly missed equalizing when his shot hit the crossbar late in the game.
Orlando sealed their victory when Ramiro Enrique capitalized on a one-on-one situation with Tim Ream and scored past Kristijan Kahlina.
Despite improvements seen during their attacks, Charlotte left disappointed without securing points from this away match. They will return home for an upcoming fixture against Chicago Fire before facing another road challenge midweek in the U.S. Open Cup.
