Charlotte FC secured their first-ever victory in Toronto with a 2-0 win, marked by strong offensive play and a clean sheet. The team ended the match with 3.5 expected goals (xG) and five big chances created from 18 shots, nine of which were on target. In contrast, Toronto managed only 0.6 xG from two shots on target.
In the first half, Charlotte dominated with constant pressure but could not break through despite several opportunities. At halftime, the score remained 0-0, leaving fans wondering if Charlotte could capitalize on their momentum.
The breakthrough came in the 56th minute when Wilfried Zaha set up Liel Abada for an attack that led to Pep Biel scoring the opening goal. David Bingham, making his first regular-season start for Charlotte FC, contributed with crucial saves to maintain the clean sheet.
Defensively, Adilson Malanda and Andrew Privett were solid throughout the game, while Souleyman Doumbia returned to action after recovering from an injury. Jahkeele Marshall-Rutty also made his return to Toronto as part of Charlotte’s lineup.
Zaha further contributed by assisting Patrick Agyemang for Charlotte’s second goal. Agyemang capitalized on Zaha’s pass and scored a signature shot past Toronto’s goalkeeper.
