Chuba Hubbard, a player for the Carolina Panthers, made a quick trip to his hometown of Edmonton, Canada, to attend Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals. The game featured the Edmonton Oilers against the Florida Panthers. This whirlwind journey saw Hubbard traveling approximately 4,800 miles round-trip over the weekend.
Hubbard attended the annual Carolina Panthers production day at Bank of America Stadium on Monday morning after returning from his trip. “To go to my actual hometown is 10 (hours),” he explained while waiting for his turn during production day. “But I flew to a neighboring city and then drove like two hours.”
The visit allowed Hubbard to sit close to the action at one of hockey’s most significant series, supporting his hometown team despite being a Panther himself. The Oilers have not won a Stanley Cup since 1990 but are recent conference champions.
“They’ve (the Oilers) have been trying to get me over there for a while and I’ve been making promises that I’m supposed to go over there, so it was long overdue,” Hubbard remarked. He also mentioned that his family accompanied him on this trip back home.
Bleacher Report captured moments with Hubbard as he brought his nephew down to experience the game from near the ice.
As of now, the series between the Oilers and Panthers stands tied at 1-1, with Game 3 scheduled for Monday night. Meanwhile, Hubbard has rejoined his Carolina teammates in time for minicamp sessions scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday.
