The Carolina Panthers are set to begin their season in less than 100 days, and for Trevor Etienne, the anticipation is heightened by a special Week 1 matchup. The rookie running back will face off against his brother, Travis Etienne of the Jacksonville Jaguars, making it a significant event for their family.

Trevor expressed his excitement about the upcoming game: “As soon as we found out the big news, we already were excited about playing each other this year. And then come to find out that it will be Week 1. It’s even more exciting, and we all can’t wait.”

This sibling showdown follows in the footsteps of other famous brotherly matchups in sports history. Donnetta Etienne, mother of both players, is preparing for the occasion by planning to wear a split jersey—half Panthers and half Jaguars. She sought advice from John Brown, father of NFL siblings Amon-Ra and Equanimeous St. Brown, on how to create such a jersey.

In preparation for his first NFL season, Trevor Etienne has been focusing on learning from experienced teammates and improving his skills. Having led the Georgia Bulldogs in rushing touchdowns last season and with return experience at Florida, he aims to make an impact on special teams under the guidance of coordinator Tracy Smith.

“It’s just whatever the guy has in his history. Let’s start from that,” said Smith about utilizing players’ past experiences in college football.

Etienne is eager to absorb knowledge from veteran teammates like Chuba Hubbard and Rico Dowdle: “I just be a sponge, you know, ask as many questions as I can.”

The countdown continues for Trevor Etienne as he prepares diligently over the next three months. The opening game is marked on the calendar not only as a professional milestone but also as a personal one shared with his brother.

“We’re just excited for each other,” said Etienne.
