For the past three years, Hunter Renfrow’s presence on the football field was overshadowed by his health struggles. The wide receiver battled ulcerative colitis, an autoimmune condition that led to significant weight loss and fatigue. This left him feeling unlike himself and affected his performance with the Raiders.
Renfrow recently expressed optimism about his recovery as he participated in OTAs and minicamp with the Panthers. “The first week or so just getting back into it, my body was still not sure about it, but I’ve felt pretty good,” Renfrow shared.
His journey back to form has been gradual, focusing on regaining physical health and adjusting his diet to manage his condition better. “Honestly, this is the best I’ve felt since probably 2021, by far,” Renfrow stated. He emphasized a daily approach: “Just taking it day by day, stacking good days.”
Panthers head coach Dave Canales noted Renfrow’s progress during practices. “Every day, you see him shine in different ways,” Canales said. He praised Renfrow’s ability to attack zones and leverage effectively.
Renfrow’s dietary changes have played a crucial role in his recovery. He’s eliminated sugar and fried foods from his diet, opting for chicken, rice, and vegetables instead. “For me, it’s been knowing what I can eat and what I can get away with,” he explained.
Despite missing last season due to health issues, Renfrow remains focused on competing for a roster spot among a talented group of receivers including Adam Thielen and first-round picks Tetairoa McMillan and Xavier Legette.
Reflecting on his journey back to health and football readiness, Renfrow said: “I’ve always been healthy; I’ve always been fortunate to be healthy.” Now feeling rejuvenated both physically and mentally, he’s eager to contribute again on the field.
