The Carolina Panthers recently welcomed Hunter Renfrow to the fold, marking his return to the field after a challenging year. Renfrow took a year-long hiatus due to an autoimmune condition diagnosis, ulcerative colitis. During his media availability with the Panthers, he shared insights into his first few days with the team and his experiences over the last year.

Renfrow recounted a significant chance encounter with fellow Panthers receiver Adam Thielen at the 2024 Wells Fargo Championship. He expressed his long-standing admiration for Thielen, whom he met afterwards at the tournament. “Obviously I’ve been a big fan of his for a number of years,” Renfrow said, drawing parallels between their similar career paths.

After succeeding in playing the same position for years, Renfrow is now teammates with Thielen. “I’ve really gotten to know him this week, (and) he’s been unbelievable,” he noted, praising Thielen’s leadership and mentorship skills.

Reflecting on his health struggles, Renfrow revealed that his condition made football an arduous task before receiving a diagnosis and treatment plan. He found comfort in watching high school games, which rekindled his enthusiasm for the sport. “I used to have fun playing this game,” Renfrow said, recalling his renewed joy.

Renfrow watched the Panthers play last season and noted the team’s energy and drive. He compared their progress to his experiences at Clemson. “Watching them progress towards the end of the year, it reminded me of a little bit like Clemson,” Renfrow commented.

Now back on the field, Renfrow praised Panthers’ quarterback Bryce Young, mentioning Young’s mobility and intelligence. “He’s very mobile, you know, he’s got a high IQ, and he just, he makes plays.”

Renfrow also lauded his fellow new teammate, Tre’von Moehrig, highlighting Moehrig’s reliability and consistent performance. “He’s one of the more steady people you’ll be around,” Renfrow said, describing Moehrig as a relaxed yet effective presence on and off the field.

Renfrow’s return marks a hopeful chapter for the Panthers and the player, as he seeks to build a promising career alongside his new teammates.
