As the 2025 NFL season approaches, attention turns to the Miami Dolphins and their offseason activities. The Carolina Panthers will face the Dolphins in Week 5 on October 5 at 1 p.m. Historically, the Panthers have struggled against Miami, trailing in their all-time series with a record of 2-6.

In their last encounter in 2023, the Panthers suffered a 42-21 defeat in Miami. Both quarterbacks, Bryce Young for Carolina and Tua Tagovailoa for Miami, threw over 200 yards; however, Tagovailoa outperformed with three touchdowns compared to Young’s one.

The Dolphins ended their 2024 season with an 8-9 record. Their defense ranked fourth overall while their offense stood at eighteenth. Key personnel changes this offseason include several free agency acquisitions: guard James Daniels, linebacker Tyrel Dodson, quarterback Zach Wilson, wide receiver Nick Westbrook, and cornerback Ifeatu Melifonwu. They also traded for safety Minkah Fitzpatrick from the Steelers and brought tight end Darren Waller out of retirement.

Significant draft picks for Miami include defensive tackle Kenneth Grant and offensive tackle Jonah Savaiinaea among others. Despite retaining much of their core team from last year, notable departures include running back Raheem Mostert.

A major trade saw cornerback Jalen Ramsey and tight end Jonnu Smith sent to Pittsburgh in exchange for Fitzpatrick. This marks Fitzpatrick’s return to Miami where he originally started his career but struggled under previous management.

Waller’s acquisition aims to fill the gap left by Smith who was a key receiver last season. Waller joins after playing with the New York Giants in 2024 where he recorded modest stats due to limited playtime.

Looking ahead to the new season, Miami’s defense remains strong especially with additions like Grant bolstering their front-seven lineup. However, questions linger around Tagovailoa’s health following multiple concussions and a hip injury that curtailed his previous season. His connection with Waller could be crucial for head coach Mike McDaniel’s strategy as they aim for improved offensive performance alongside seeking a rebound year from star receiver Tyreek Hill.
