CHARLOTTE — The offseason provides players with an opportunity to unwind and explore, but for rookie Nic Scourton of the Carolina Panthers, it has been a time to familiarize himself with his new city, Charlotte. Despite the chance to travel, Scourton chose to stay in town.
“I stayed here the whole break just trying to figure out Charlotte,” Scourton said on Tuesday. “I love it, man, the city is full of juice and full of love.”
During his exploration, Scourton discovered various attractions including “nice museums, amazing food, great trails and walks.” Although he clarified that it was his parents who visited the museums.
Learning about local history was also part of Scourton’s journey. He expressed admiration for Dan Morgan, his general manager and former Panthers linebacker. “I’m just happy to be here,” he noted.
In addition to exploring Charlotte, Scourton spent time with his pets. He described enjoying walks with them as a way to clear his head. Of particular interest is JR, a Maine Coon cat expected to grow significantly larger than average.
“He’s going to be healthy,” promised Scourton regarding JR’s size expectations.
Scourton also mentioned Lily, a mini long-haired dachshund who will soon join him in Charlotte courtesy of his brother’s visit.
As training camp approaches, Scourton looks forward to applying what he’s learned from veterans like Patrick Jones II and D.J. Wonnum. “So I’m excited,” he said about joining training camp.
Scourton aims not only for personal growth but also hopes “to get these fans riled up” during the upcoming season.
