The Carolina Panthers have activated tight end Tommy Tremble from the physically unable to perform list. The move comes as the team prepares for the start of the regular season.
Tremble will not participate in Thursday’s preseason finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he is now able to practice fully with his teammates. Head coach Dave Canales indicated earlier this week that there is optimism Tremble will be available for the team’s regular season opener.
The 25-year-old player re-signed with Carolina during the offseason, joining Jaycee Horn, Brady Christensen, and Chuba Hubbard as members of the 2021 draft class who have signed second contracts with the club.
Last season, Tremble recorded 23 receptions for 234 yards and two touchdowns. One of his notable moments was a no-look touchdown catch from quarterback Bryce Young in the final game at Atlanta. Tremble underwent back surgery in May.
“Tommy is doing great,” Canales said Tuesday. “He’s running full speed, he’s looking towards just trying to get some more physical contact and get that adaptation part, before we can fully clear him.
“He’s had no setbacks, and so we’re excited to get Tommy back on the field doing something real soon.”
