The Carolina Panthers have signed quarterback Bryce Perkins to their active roster, the team announced Monday. To make space on the 90-man roster, tight end Tyler Mabry was placed on injured reserve.
Mabry, who joined the Panthers in July, did not participate in Saturday’s preseason game against the Houston Texans.
The addition of Perkins provides the team with another option at quarterback for this week. The move comes as starters are not expected to play in Thursday night’s preseason matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Backup quarterback Andy Dalton exited Saturday’s game due to an elbow injury.
Perkins previously spent three seasons with the Los Angeles Rams and was most recently named MVP of the United Football League (UFL).
