The Carolina Panthers will play their second preseason game against the Houston Texans on Saturday without several starters and important contributors. Cornerback Jaycee Horn, sidelined with a thumb injury, and left guard Damien Lewis, out due to a shoulder issue, are among those who will not participate in the game. Their absences were anticipated by the team.

Shemar Bartholomew is set to start at cornerback in place of Horn, following Corey Thornton’s appearance at that position last week. Cade Mays will take over for Lewis at left guard.

Rookie outside linebacker Nic Scourton is also out after leaving Thursday’s joint practice because of cramping and heat-related symptoms. Wide receiver Jalen Coker, who missed practices this week due to illness, will be held out as well.

Trevin Wallace, who was absent from the joint practice for personal reasons earlier in the week, is expected to be available and play on Saturday.

The Panthers’ full list of inactive players for the game includes: Jaycee Horn (CB), Nic Scourton (OLB), Jalen Coker (WR), Tyler Mabry (TE), Claudin Cherelus (LB), Cam Jackson (DT), Chandler Zavala (G), Damien Lewis (G), and LaBryan Ray (DE).
