The Carolina Panthers continued their mandatory minicamp on Wednesday with some notable developments. First-round pick Tetairoa McMillan was held out of practice as a precaution after sustaining a minor injury during Tuesday’s session. Head coach Dave Canales explained, “He went down for a ball, got kicked in the leg, and swelled up, so just as a precautionary, just sat him out today.” Canales expressed hope that McMillan would return to practice the following day.

In addition to McMillan’s absence, cornerback Jaycee Horn and veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen also did not participate in Wednesday’s practice. Their absence was attributed to what appeared to be rest days for veterans.

Despite these absences, the team maintained high energy levels during practice. The Panthers focused on red zone situations and matched the intensity of the previous day’s session. Canales noted the competitive nature of the practice: “Great response by the guys…today, from the jump, it was such a competitive practice.”

Former Panthers cornerback Josh Norman attended Wednesday’s practice and interacted with current players like Bryce Young and Jaycee Horn. Canales encouraged his players to engage with former team members: “I just wanted to make sure our guys know how important they are…the legacy that we have.”

Quarterback Bryce Young took an active role in guiding his receivers throughout practice. He demonstrated plays and provided feedback using video replays. Canales emphasized Young’s growing importance in this role: “It’s what Bryce sees…All the little nuances that part takes time.”

Defensive back Tre’von Moehrig showcased his versatility during practice by intercepting a pass intended for Hunter Renfrow and returning it for a quasi-pick-six. Canales praised Moehrig’s adaptability: “He’s kind of versatile…We can blitz them, we can play him at linebacker.”

The team’s kicking competition remains undecided as rookie Ryan Fitzgerald made all five attempts on Wednesday while veteran Matthew Wright hit three out of five on Tuesday. Canales stated it’s too early to determine who has an edge: “Let’s get a real rush out there…then we’ll be able to make the decision.”
