Dave Canales, a coach for the Panthers, shared insights on the first day of mandatory minicamp in Charlotte. A notable interaction involved cornerback Jaycee Horn and quarterback Bryce Young engaging in spirited exchanges during practice. This behavior reflects a competitive spirit within the team, according to Canales.
“Honestly, it’s just been like that,” Canales said. “Ever since we started practicing against each other, they, particularly Chuba, Jaycee, Bryce, they’re all kind of going back and forth. And the energy for us is never about the opponent; it’s never about trying to dominate the opponent; it’s about bringing your best.”
Canales also noted that Bryce Young has been more expressive than perceived. “Honestly, he gets really animated,” Canales mentioned. He highlighted Young’s enthusiasm for sports discussions and his competitive nature on the field.
Amaré Barno was absent from practice due to a recent knee procedure. “Just rehabbing, he had a little clean-out procedure with his knee, and he feels so much better already,” Canales explained regarding Barno’s recovery.
The minicamp saw several Panthers alumni attending practice sessions. General manager Dan Morgan was present alongside former players such as Muhsin Muhammad and Jon Beason.
Canales addressed rumors regarding potential additions to the team’s secondary but provided no definitive answers. “I don’t know that for sure,” he said when asked about recruiting external talent like Jaire Alexander.
Overall, Canales expressed satisfaction with how players are developing their personalities within team dynamics.
