There are still several months until the Carolina Panthers’ 2025 season begins, but anticipation is already building. With team rosters beginning to take shape following the draft and free agency, fans and analysts alike are starting to focus on key players from each opponent that the Panthers will face in Weeks 1-8.

In Week 1, the Jacksonville Jaguars present a notable challenge with Travis Hunter. “Choosing Travis Hunter was the easiest decision for this whole list,” noted observers. As a Heisman winner and No. 2 overall pick, Hunter’s potential impact as a two-way player at both receiver and cornerback is highly anticipated.

The Arizona Cardinals’ James Conner will test the Panthers’ revamped run defense in Week 2. Last season, Conner achieved career highs with 236 rushes for 1,094 yards and eight touchdowns. The Panthers hope their new defensive lineup can stymie his performance early in the season.

Week 3 brings Michael Penix Jr., quarterback for the Atlanta Falcons. After being named starter over Kirk Cousins last year, Penix’s development continues to be watched closely by analysts who question whether he has fully adapted to NFL play.

Drake Maye of the New England Patriots will be under scrutiny in Week 4. “The Charlotte native Drake Maye had a rookie season that experienced highs…and lows,” remarked commentators on his performance last year. With new head coach Mike Vrabel and offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels leading the Patriots, Maye’s adaptation to their system remains uncertain.

Kenneth Grant of the Miami Dolphins is another player to watch in Week 5. Drafted No. 13 overall, Grant’s ability to strengthen Miami’s defensive line could pose challenges for opposing offenses.

George Pickens joins CeeDee Lamb on the Dallas Cowboys’ roster as they face off against Carolina in Week 6. Pickens’ addition aims to bolster an already strong receiving corps led by Lamb under new head coach Brian Schottenheimer.

In Week 7, Justin Fields will lead the New York Jets against Carolina after signing with them during free agency. His talent is undisputed; however, finding a system that complements his skills remains crucial for success with his new team.

Finally, Josh Allen of the Buffalo Bills awaits in Week 8 as a formidable opponent for any team throughout all weeks of play according to Jake Delhomme: “And while Buffalo has talent across board it really all comes down Josh Allen.”
