The Carolina Panthers have promoted two players from their practice squad ahead of Sunday’s game against the Buffalo Bills. The team announced that outside linebacker Boogie Basham and quarterback Hendon Hooker have been elevated to the active roster for Week 8.
This marks the third and final time Basham can be elevated from the practice squad this season. If the Panthers wish to use him again in future games, he would need to be signed to the 53-man roster.
Quarterback Hendon Hooker is expected to serve as backup to Andy Dalton, as starting quarterback Bryce Young is listed as doubtful due to an ankle injury. Young may still be designated as an inactive emergency third quarterback for the game, but league rules require that emergency third quarterbacks must be on the 53-man roster, and currently, the Panthers have only two quarterbacks on that roster.
The moves are part of roster management strategies NFL teams use to address injuries and maintain depth during the season.
