The Carolina Panthers have released linebacker Josey Jewell, as the veteran player continues to deal with concussion symptoms. The decision was announced on Tuesday.
A team spokesperson explained that the 30-year-old Jewell chose to prioritize his health and recovery while being considerate of his teammates. This move allows the Panthers to proceed with players who can fully participate in practice when training camp opens tomorrow.
Jewell signed a three-year contract during the 2024 offseason and played in 12 games last year. He ranked second on the team with 97 tackles and recorded seven tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks, two fumble recoveries, and an interception. His season ended early due to a concussion sustained in Week 16 against the Cardinals.
The Panthers have bolstered their roster by signing former Rams starter Christian Rozeboom at the beginning of free agency. They also retain Trevin Wallace, a third-round pick from 2024 with starting experience.
Additionally, the team has a group of young players including Claudin Cherelus, Jacoby Windmon, special teams player Jon Rhattigan, and rookies Bam Martin-Scott and Tuasivi Nomura.
