Tetairoa McMillan, a promising rookie wide receiver for the Carolina Panthers, is receiving guidance from both sides of the ball to enhance his skills. Drafted for his potential, McMillan is benefiting from the support of experienced players and coaches.

Panthers head coach Dave Canales expressed satisfaction with McMillan’s progress: “He’s really taken to the coaching, first and foremost,” Canales said after a recent OTA practice. The focus is on making him comfortable with various plays and formations. Canales added, “That gives him his best opportunity to play fast.”

Veteran players Adam Thielen and Hunter Renfrow are actively mentoring McMillan, providing insights during sideline discussions and drills. This mentorship is proving valuable as rookies like McMillan absorb knowledge from seasoned professionals.

McMillan appreciates being part of a diverse group: “It’s a huge testament to everybody’s humility that we have in our group; nobody’s entitled,” he stated. He values the wisdom shared by Thielen and Renfrow, noting their extensive experience in the league.

Adapting to the physicality of professional football is one area where McMillan seeks improvement. He acknowledges that “they play a lot more physical in the league” compared to college football at Arizona.

Facing Pro Bowl cornerback Jaycee Horn in practice provides McMillan with challenging matchups. Horn’s leadership on defense contributes significantly to McMillan’s development. “I know he’s gonna do everything in his power to make sure that I’m ready for anything,” McMillan remarked about Horn.

Coach Canales emphasizes competition as a key element of player development: “We talk about it all the time; we make us,” he said. The daily matchups in practice are designed to elevate each player’s game.

Canales noted specific improvements in McMillan’s performance: “I think it’s just his consistent ability to win at the top of the route; he uses his hands well.” With signs of progress evident, Canales remains optimistic about McMillan’s future contributions to the team.
