Bryce Young led the Carolina Panthers to a 30-27 victory over the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday, completing 17 of 25 passes for 199 yards and three touchdowns with one interception. His performance resulted in a quarterback rating of 114.8. This marks the fourth time in his career that Young has thrown three touchdown passes in a game, matching his personal best.

Young also directed his eighth career game-winning drive, and second consecutive, taking the Panthers 71 yards over 15 plays in just over six minutes during the final quarter. On this decisive possession, he completed three of five passes for 25 yards. According to Pro Football Focus, while trailing the Cowboys, Young was perfect—completing all ten pass attempts for 125 yards and three touchdowns with a passer rating of 158.3.

Rookie receiver Tetairoa McMillan caught his first NFL touchdown on a 19-yard play from Young.

Running back Rico Dowdle continued his strong form by setting a new franchise record with 239 scrimmage yards—183 rushing on 30 carries and another 56 receiving with one touchdown on four catches. He surpassed Christian McCaffrey’s previous team record of 237 scrimmage yards set against Seattle in November 2018 and Jacksonville in October 2019. Dowdle has now accumulated a total of 473 scrimmage yards over Weeks Five and Six, marking the highest two-game total in team history.

Dowdle is now among only six running backs since the Super Bowl era to have at least 225 scrimmage yards and a touchdown in consecutive games—a group that includes Dalvin Cook (2020), Le’Veon Bell (2014), Deuce McAllister (2003), Marshall Faulk (2002), and Walter Payton (1977).

The Panthers offense recorded fourteen rushing first downs against Dallas, tying for fourth most in franchise history. The defense allowed only one rushing first down—the third fewest ever by the team—and limited Dallas to just thirty-one rushing yards on nineteen attempts, an average of only 1.63 yards per carry.

This defensive effort followed last week’s performance against Miami where they allowed just nineteen rushing yards on fourteen attempts. The combined fifty rushing yards given up across both games is the second lowest two-game total in franchise history.

Despite not forcing any turnovers against Dallas and giving up one interception themselves, Carolina’s turnover margin through six games stands at negative four.

Kicker Ryan Fitzgerald made all three field goal attempts—including a game-winner from thirty-three yards out—and converted all extra point tries. His fifty-five yard field goal matched the seventh longest kick in team history; it was previously achieved by Joey Slye at Houston in 2019. Fitzgerald has made ten out of eleven field goals so far this season.

According to Next Gen Stats, Young faced zone coverage on more than eighty-five percent of dropbacks versus Dallas, completing fourteen of twenty-one passes for one hundred seventy-four yards with two touchdowns and an interception against such schemes. He also threw his first deep touchdown passes of the season—one each to Dowdle and McMillan—after having none through five games.

On snap counts, Dowdle played eighty-eight percent of offensive snaps as backup running backs saw limited action due to his strong performance. All five active wide receivers participated while tight ends Mitchell Evans and Tommy Tremble were heavily involved as well.

Defensively, Derrick Brown returned to playing more than eighty percent of snaps after missing time earlier this season. Nickelback Chau Smith-Wade resumed regular duties while others saw reduced roles upon his return.

Cornerback Keion Crossen made his debut for Carolina after being elevated from the practice squad.
