The Carolina Panthers have begun their training camp with a sense of routine, benefiting from stability in their coaching and management team. Head Coach Dave Canales, entering his second year, emphasized the importance of growth and teamwork. “Just weekly growth, and right now our focus is having a great camp,” Canales stated.

General Manager Dan Morgan echoed this sentiment by focusing on improvement rather than setting specific goals like playoffs. A notable moment occurred when rookie pass rusher Princely Umanmielen demonstrated his skills but was reminded to balance aggression with caution during practice.

Injury updates revealed that some players are recovering, including Tommy Tremble after back surgery. Canales described these as short-term issues, stating they would take things week by week.

A kicking competition is underway with veteran Matthew Wright taking the first shot at live field goal drills. Despite missing one attempt due to non-standard conditions, Wright’s performance was largely positive.

The release of linebacker Josey Jewell led to changes in the lineup, with Christian Rozeboom and Trevin Wallace stepping up. The team also explored options for punt returners despite lacking a healthy punter.

Guardian caps made their debut at the camp, providing extra protection for players wearing non-compliant helmets. Long snapper JJ Jansen mentioned he is awaiting a new compliant helmet but appreciated the added safety in the meantime.
