Charlotte FC midfielder Pep Biel was named to the Major League Soccer (MLS) Team of the Matchday for week 3, according to a March 9 announcement from the club. Biel earned this recognition after scoring two goals in Charlotte’s 3-1 victory against Austin FC on Saturday, marking his first selection to the Team of the Matchday in 2026 and sixth overall in his career.

This honor comes as Charlotte FC ended a two-match winless streak with their recent win. The club participates in Major League Soccer as part of the Eastern Conference, according to the official website. Biel scored his first goal of the match in the 68th minute, breaking a 1-1 tie with a tap-in following a pass from Liel Abada. He added another goal during stoppage time after receiving an assist from Luca de la Torre.

Biel has now scored three of Charlotte’s first four goals this season and recorded his eighth career game-winning goal, just one behind Karol Swiderski for most in club history. His brace brought his total to 15 goals in 38 matches played for Charlotte FC, placing him one goal behind Kerwin Vargas for third place on the club’s all-time regular season scoring list. Biel is currently tied for third among league scorers with three goals, trailing only Sam Surridge and Klauss.

Charlotte Football Club operates as a professional soccer team based in Charlotte, North Carolina, competing in Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference according to its official website. The team was established as an expansion franchise with its inaugural season in 2022.

With this result, Charlotte FC moved into sixth place in the Eastern Conference standings with four points and will continue its five-match homestand on Saturday against Inter Miami CF.
