Unlike some of his peers, Sanders exudes confidence in his abilities. At the NFL combine, Sanders stated, “If you ain’t trying to change the franchise or the culture, don’t get me,” expressing his focus on making a significant impact on any team that acquires him.
Beginning his collegiate career at Jackson State under his father’s coaching, Sanders transitioned to Colorado when Deion accepted a coaching position there. By the 2024 season’s close, Sanders had led Colorado to a 9-4 record, a feat the team had not achieved since 2016. With 4,134 passing yards, he ranked fourth in the FBS, and his 74 percent completion rate was the highest for any college quarterback.
Sanders shared insights into his unique approach, stating, “I tried everybody’s way, I tried every different style… so I know what works for me and what makes me play my best.” He believes his consistent performance across different settings proves his prowess, dismissing doubts about his status as a top quarterback prospect with, “I’ve done it at two locations already, so it’s simple.”
Shedeur’s approach is divisive; some may appreciate his confidence, while others may find it excessive. Regardless, he embraces the criticism, saying, “Without people hating, it’s not normal for us.” He acknowledges areas for improvement as he prepares for professional play, understanding the need to adapt his game for the NFL’s demands.
Sanders admitted, “I realized, OK, going to the next level, I’ve got to find myself early,” recognizing past tendencies such as “hero ball.” This self-awareness may play a pivotal role as he progresses in his career.
When asked if he considers himself the top quarterback in the draft, Sanders confidently responded, “Of course,” while also respecting the efforts of his draft peers. He concluded, “But I know what I bring to the table,” reaffirming his belief in his talent.
