Town of Waxhaw issued the following announcement on Mar. 17.

Town Hall Operating Hours & Parks and Rec COVID-19 Precautions

Town Hall Operating Hours and Services

With the Governor’s executive orders regarding social distancing due to COVID-19, the Town of Waxhaw Staff will be operating on a staggered schedule beginning Monday, March 16th.

Town Hall will be open to the public on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 AM – 2 PM in order to receive tax payments and permit applications. While Town Hall will be open during those times, we encourage residents to use the online portal to make tax payments or the outdoor drop box. If you do need to come to Town Hall to make a payment, we ask that you pay by check if possible.

Permitting and inspection duties will operate through normal business hours, Monday through Friday from 8 AM to 5 PM, but will rely on remote technology and online processing as much as possible.

Please note that employees who are considered essential, such as the Police Department, will continue to operate as usual.

The Town of Waxhaw will continue to strive to do what is in the best interest of its employees and our citizens.

Waxhaw Parks & Recreation Update – COVID-19 Precautions

The Town of Waxhaw will be cancelling or postponing all Parks & Recreation programs through April 12th, including postponing the April 3rd Blue Light Sk8 Night. We have also outlined procedures for cleaning Parks & Rec facilities in response to government recommendations for preventing the spread of COVID-19, for the safety and well-being of our residents and visitors.

Due to the CDC’s warning that people age 60 and over are considered a high-risk group, all Senior programs are cancelled until mid-April to protect our senior citizens. This includes the March 19th Senior Game Day, the March 26th Back & Spinal Health class, and the April 2nd Medication Safety & Phone Scam Prevention class. These subjects will appear again in the next Waxhaw program guide so our seniors have the opportunity to get this great information in the summertime.

The Adult Day Trip to iFly Indoor Skydiving on April 2nd will be postponed until the summer. Information is coming soon about a new date for this event. The adult program “Cake Leveling & Smooth Buttercream Icing” scheduled for March 29th is cancelled. All participants that have registered for these programs through RecDesk will be notified directly.

The Blue Light Sk8 Night event scheduled for Friday, April 3rd, will be postponed until the summer. Please stay tuned for the announcement of the new date.

The following programs are also cancelled at this time, and will be rescheduled in the next program guide:

  • Teen Program: March 19th and 26th – Babysitting Class
  • Youth Program: April 4th – Parent Night Out
You can register for future programs today at waxhaw.recdesk.com.

We understand that with the closure of all North Carolina public schools for the next two weeks, families will be looking for activities to do together to pass the time. At this time, all Waxhaw parks and trails will remain open from sunrise to sunset, with the exception of the 12 Mile Creek/Carolina Thread Trail NC/SC Suspension Bridge section that was damaged with the flooding in February.

We would like to remind visitors to practice social distancing, keeping a distance of six to ten feet from others when in a public space, and we ask that residents stay home if they are sick to avoid the spread of germs.

Waxhaw staff has always taken great care of facilities and maintained the cleanliness of town equipment. To ease the minds of Waxhaw families during this time, we would like to remind the public of our cleaning procedures for Waxhaw parks and facilities.

For all restroom facilities, Parks & Recreation staff currently follows this cleaning procedure three (3) times per day:

  • Staff sprays down the restroom with a bleach/disinfectant solution, allowing it to sit for 5 to 10 minutes
  • Staff sprays water over affected areas
  • Staff then wipes down the restroom with Bleach/Disinfectant Restroom Cleaner
  • Staff then sprays Lysol
There are permanent restroom facilities at David G. Barnes Park and H.C. Nesbit Park, and there are port-a-lets for public use at Town Creek Park.

The playground equipment and facilities at David G. Barnes Park and Town Creek Park are cleaned once per week. During this procedure, staff will power wash the playgrounds at each park with a bleach solution. The parks are closed for cleaning during this procedure to ensure they are cleaned effectively.

We will notify residents of any changes to the town programming or events schedules via News Flash on the Waxhaw website, and on social media.
