Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools issued the following announcement on Aug. 24.
Two new principal appointments and an athletic director were announced at tonight's Charlotte-Mecklenburg Board of Education meeting.
Bilal Tawwab was named principal at University Meadows Elementary. He has been a teacher at Nations Ford Elementary since 2019. Tawwab had been the superintendent of Flint Community Schools in Mich. from 2015 to 2018. He was an assistant superintendent from 2012 to 2015, a principal from 2010 to 2012 and assistant principal from 2005 to 2010 in Detroit Public Schools. Tawwab earned a bachelor's degree in elementary education from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, Mich., and a master's degree in educational administration from Wayne State University in Detroit.
David Farley was named principal at William Amos Hough High. He has been the assistant principal since 2018 and dean of students from 2016 to 2018 at Hough High. Farley was an instructional accountability facilitator at North Mecklenburg High from 2015 to 2016 and a teacher at Harding University High from 2013 to 2015. He earned a bachelor's degree in history and a master's degree in education from the State University of New York at Oswego in Oswego, N.Y.
Ericia Turner was named athletic director for Charlotte-Mecklenburg Schools. She has been the principal at Rocky River since 2016. Turner was a principal at Statesville Middle from 2014 to 2016 and an assistant principal at Statesville High from 2013 to 2014 in the Iredell-Statesville School District. She was the director of athletics for the Alamance Burlington School System from 2012 to 2013 and assistant principal and athletic director at Newton Conover High in Newton-Conover City Schools from 2009 to 2012. Turner earned a bachelor's degree in physical education and a master's degree in physical education from North Carolina Agricultural & Technical State University. She earned a master's degree in school administration from Gardner Webb University in Boiling Springs, N.C., and an educational specialist in education administration from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
