What attracted you to UNC Charlotte?
When I first toured UNC Charlotte, I immediately fell in love with the campus. Even though walking the hills to and from classes provides me with my own personal workout, the campus is so beautiful. I immediately felt at home here.
How has it changed with COVID-19?
COVID-19 has changed how the University operates. During the first year of the pandemic, campus was not as vibrant since there were not many people here. However, once people were back on campus this past year, the atmosphere became more exciting, even more so than before the pandemic started.
What do you enjoy about attending UNC Charlotte?
Four years later, I’m still in love with how the campus looks, and I like how diverse the campus community feels. When I first got here, it did not take me long to find people who came from different backgrounds. Even to this day, I’m still learning more about the people and the world around me, and I’ve met some pretty cool people in the process. During my time here, I’ve had extremely helpful and supportive professors. They have been extremely influential in helping me become the person I am today.
What is one spot every student should go to before they graduate?
This one might be pretty underrated, but go to the Popp Martin Student Union at sunset. Looking down Craver Road at the setting sun is an unmatched sight that everyone should see.
What are your favorite things to do on campus?
I’m a big sports guy, so I always try to attend the various sports games we have on campus, such as soccer, football, basketball and baseball. I also like to stroll through the Botanical Gardens. Here’s a pro tip: Mid-spring to early summer is probably the best time to go since it isn’t too hot, and you can see a lot of plants beginning to bloom.
What advice do you have for fellow 49ers?
Connect with the campus community early and often. I came from a small high school with a graduating class of around 60 people, and then a few months later came here. As you can imagine, it was a daunting transition to find my place in such a large community. By getting involved in clubs and programs my freshman year, I was able to connect with a lot of people and feel like I was a part of the campus. That feeling has remained the same for the last four years. Join a sports club, student organization or go on an alternative spring break trip. Do whatever you can to be involved in something. Taking advantage of the plentiful opportunities that UNC Charlotte has will help anyone feel more connected to campus, and will greatly improve their overall college experience.
