Charlotte Fire Department issued the following announcement on Feb. 28.

A great artifact of Charlotte's Black history is the William Jeffers & Co. Hand-Powered Pumper, which is associated with Charlotte's first Black firefighters, known as the Yellow Jacket Fire Co. Named Neptune No. 3, the hand-pumper is designed to shoot water a distance of 200 ft and was purchased by the City in 1875. The City sold the Neptune Pumper in 1901, but in 2012 it was re-purchased by the Charlotte Fire Dept. The Neptune is currently on display in the lobby of the Charlotte Fire Department, Charlotte NC  headquarters, 500 Dalton Ave, Charlotte and was designated as a local historic landmark in 2018.
