On Friday at Sue. M Daughtridge Stadium, the Charlotte 49ers battled North Texas in a 1-0 loss.
The Mean Green secured a quick lead in the top of the first. Leadoff Lexi Cobb singled as Kalei Christensen reached second on a key Charlotte error, advancing Cobb to third. Kailey Gamble hit a groundout to third, but it allowed the runner to scamper home for the 1-0 lead.
Charlotte opened the fifth frame as Ella Chancey walked, advanced to second on a groundout, and moved to third on a walk. Unfortunately, the Mean Green quickly cleared the bases on a double play.
In the sixth, Left fielder Anna Devereaux singled to first. Mekayla Frazier laced one up the middle to reach on a fielder choice as Devereaux was tagged out at second. Senior Bailey Vannoy walked with two down. Shortly after, both base runners advanced on a wild pitch to second and third, but that was all the green and white could manage off UNT starter Skyler Savage as a groundout ended the frame.
NINER NUGGETS:
- In the circle, senior pitcher Lindsey Walljasper (9–3) was dealt a tough loss after allowing one run on just four hits and six strikeouts over 7.0 innings.
