Fifty-four members of UNC Charlotte’s faculty are recipients of 2022-23 Faculty Research Grants for pursuing new lines of research or establishing new scholarly collaborations. The grants are awarded through the Faculty Research Grants (FRG) program, the University’s signature seed grant initiative.
Selected from a total of 69 applications, the projects to be funded represent disciplines from the University’s seven academic colleges: 27 to FRG’s STEM track, 13 to the Arts and Humanities track and 29 to its Social Sciences, Business, Health and Education track. FRG, which offers opportunities for both newly appointed assistant professors and continuing faculty, allows individual projects a maximum budget of $8,000 each, including a stipend of up to $4,200. Joint proposals are funded up to $16,000 each with a maximum stipend of $8,400.
“Faculty Research Grants offer exciting, new ideas a jump start toward becoming well-defined, purposeful research and collaborations,” said Rick Tankersley, vice chancellor for research and economic development. “The most successful of these projects often provide the preliminary data needed for expansion and attract support from external funding sources. FRG is just one example of the University’s commitment to helping faculty hone their grant-seeking skills and providing funding opportunities for their ideas as momentum continues for our research enterprise.”
Projects funded for an 18-month period beginning in 2022 are:
