The Panthers made several procedural moves on Friday as rookies reported to training camp. Among these was the anticipated placement of second-round running back Jonathon Brooks on the active/non-football injury list.
Brooks can be activated from the list at any time, but his clearance for the start of camp was not expected due to a torn ACL he suffered last November during his tenure at the University of Texas. Since Brooks' injury occurred before his NFL career began, he was placed on the NFI list instead of being categorized as physically unable to perform.
Additionally, four other players were placed on the active/physically unable to perform list. This includes veteran free agents D.J. Wonnum and Yosh Nijman, along with outside linebacker Amaré Barno and rookie wide receiver Jalen Coker. Similar to Brooks, they can be activated at any time.
Veterans are scheduled to report to camp next Tuesday, with practice set to commence next Wednesday.
