CHARLOTTE — The Panthers added depth at the wide receiver position on Thursday by signing Deven Thompkins after a workout session. Thompkins, a former undrafted rookie from Utah State, spent the last two seasons with the Buccaneers, where he worked alongside Dave Canales and most of the current Panthers' offensive staff.
The 5-foot-8, 155-pound receiver caught 22 passes for 115 yards and one touchdown in 22 games over his tenure with the Buccaneers. Additionally, Thompkins contributed as a kick and punt returner.
During his college career at Utah State, Thompkins was notably productive. As a senior, he recorded 102 receptions for 1,704 yards and ten touchdowns. He also posted an impressive 4.35-second time in the 40-yard dash during his pro day.
To accommodate Thompkins on the roster, the Panthers waived/injured rookie defensive lineman Popo Aumavae.
