Andy Dalton addressed the media in Charlotte after being named the Carolina Panthers' new starting quarterback. "I'm really excited for this opportunity," Dalton said, expressing enthusiasm about his unexpected promotion. He will take over in Week 3 against the Las Vegas Raiders.

Panthers head coach Dave Canales announced the decision on Monday, informing both Bryce Young and Dalton before sharing it with the team. "I talked to Bryce, and I talked to Andy, and then from there, I let the team know," Canales stated.

Dalton admitted he was surprised by the news but felt a surge of excitement. "It's one of those things I've been praying for, another opportunity. And I've got it now," he said.

Safety Nick Scott noted that turnover is common in professional football, especially during challenging times. "There's changes, especially when you get into times of adversity," Scott remarked.

Canales emphasized that Dalton's promotion was based on giving the Panthers their best chance to win this week. The offensive scheme will remain unchanged. Dalton expressed confidence in his ability to adapt quickly due to his extensive experience in the league.

Dalton started one game last season when Young was injured, delivering a strong performance against the Seattle Seahawks with 334 passing yards—the team's best passing performance of the season.

Despite his excitement, Dalton acknowledged Young's disappointment and their close relationship. "Hopefully our friendship and everything that we've built from the moment he got here will stay," Dalton said.

Young will serve as backup quarterback for now, ready to step in if needed. His teammates have pledged their support during this transition period. Tight end Tommy Tremble took responsibility for Young's struggles on behalf of the entire offense: "We together couldn't get it done."

The Panthers aim to regroup and perform better with Dalton at quarterback as they prepare for Sunday's game against the Raiders.
