The Carolina Panthers have reinstated veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen to their active roster. This move comes as the 21-day practice window for his return from injured reserve was about to close. Thielen had been sidelined for seven games due to a hamstring injury sustained while scoring a touchdown in Week 3 against Las Vegas.
Thielen was cleared to resume practice on October 23 and participated for over a week. However, he had not played since the Thursday of Week 9. Had he not been activated by today, Thielen would have remained on injured reserve for the rest of the season.
Before his injury, the 34-year-old player recorded eight catches for 109 yards and one touchdown over three games.
This week, the Panthers' active roster included only three receivers: rookies Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker, along with veteran David Moore. They were joined by Deven Thompkins from the practice squad.
In order to accommodate Thielen's return, tight end Jordan Matthews was waived once more. Matthews had been part of the active roster during two separate periods this season but spent most of his time on the practice squad.
Additionally, Cam Johnson was released from the practice squad on Tuesday.
