The Charlotte Hornets secured a thrilling 123-121 overtime victory against the Detroit Pistons on Thursday night. Brandon Miller was instrumental in the win, scoring a career-high 38 points. This performance came just over two weeks after he hit a game-winning buzzer-beater against the same team.
Miller and LaMelo Ball made franchise history as they became the first Hornets teammates to each score at least 35 points in a single game. "It was just an opportunity to be more aggressive," said Miller, reflecting on his approach during overtime.
The game saw Charlotte build a significant lead with a strong third-quarter run, only for Detroit to fight back and take the lead with less than a minute left in regulation. Despite this challenge, key defensive plays and clutch shooting by Miller helped secure the win for Charlotte.
Cade Cunningham led Detroit with 27 points before leaving due to injury at the start of overtime. Tobias Harris contributed season highs in points and three-pointers for the Pistons.
Charlotte's three-point shooting was notable once again, as they made 20 shots from beyond the arc for their third consecutive game. Josh Green and Cody Martin also contributed significantly from deep.
Turnovers were initially controlled by Charlotte but increased late in the game, although Detroit struggled more with ball control throughout.
With Miles Bridges unavailable, Moussa Diabaté started at center and impressed with his defensive play and rebounding prowess, achieving career highs in both categories.
Looking ahead, Charlotte will travel to face the Milwaukee Bucks on Saturday after previously defeating them by one point earlier this season.
