Panthers running back Raheem Blackshear was taken to a hospital for tests after sustaining a chest injury during Sunday's game. Initially listed as questionable to return, he was later ruled out and transported by ambulance to Penn Presbyterian Medical Center. Despite the scare, Blackshear returned to the locker room post-game and traveled home with the team that night.
Head coach Dave Canales confirmed, "Blackshear was returning to the stadium and would travel home with the team Sunday night."
Blackshear, 26, is both a running back and returner from Philadelphia. During the game, he returned a kickoff and punt in the first quarter before his injury.
The Panthers faced another setback as running back Jonathon Brooks suffered a right knee injury in the first half. This left Chuba Hubbard as their only healthy running back available. Coach Canales mentioned they were awaiting further test results on Brooks's knee, which had previously undergone ACL surgery last November. Expressing concern over Brooks's condition, Canales noted that Brooks was experiencing pain.
"They're still gathering a bunch of information," Canales stated. "We do know that it's something going on, some pain in his knee. We're going to have to do a bunch more imaging before we can make a decision or declaration on what's happening there."
Canales added, "It was certainly scary for him, scary for all of us. But again, we'll collect all the information and we'll give you more as we figure that out."
