As the NFL and college football seasons draw to a close, attention shifts towards potential draft picks. The Carolina Panthers, holding the eighth overall pick in April's NFL draft, have several prospects to consider from tonight's College Football Playoff National Championship between Notre Dame and Ohio State.
The Panthers' defense is a primary focus for improvement after recording historically poor performance metrics. Jack Sawyer from Ohio State could be a valuable addition as an EDGE rusher. "Jack Sawyer could help with that," noted sources within the organization. With six sacks this season, three forced fumbles, and an interception, Sawyer ranks tenth among FBS EDGE defenders in quarterback pressures.
Another player under consideration is Emeka Egbuka, also from Ohio State. Known for his consistency and versatility as a wide receiver, Egbuka has already achieved one 1,000+ yard season and is on the brink of another. "Having wide receivers who can be those foundational pieces can't be overstated," particularly when building around quarterback Bryce Young.
On the defensive side for Notre Dame, linebacker Jack Kiser stands out with his reliability in tackling. He has recorded 85 tackles this season with only a four percent missed tackle rate. Xavier Watts adds depth to Notre Dame's defensive prospects as a safety with 13 interceptions over two seasons.
Although less likely to be picked early due to existing roster plans, running back Jeremiyah Love from Notre Dame remains on the radar due to his impressive performance this season.
With these players in mind, the Panthers are evaluating their options carefully as they prepare for significant changes during the offseason.
