Panthers’ GM Dan Morgan reflects on progress at Reese’s Senior Bowl

The Reese's Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, has once again become a gathering point for NFL coaches and general managers to scout top draft prospects. Among those attending are Carolina Panthers' General Manager Dan Morgan and Head Coach Dave Canales, who reflect on their progress since last year.

"I think it's a little different this year, obviously not having mics attached to us and everything," Morgan commented while observing the practice sessions at Hancock Whitney Stadium. Last year marked their initiation into new roles with the Panthers, learning the ropes of leadership amidst media scrutiny.

Morgan reminisced about his first days on the job: "Me and coach Canales were talking about it on the way over here... It's just nice for us to come out here and concentrate and be able to build a roster." The previous year's focus was on establishing a team culture alongside drafting players like Xavier Legette and Trevin Wallace.

For Canales, Mobile represents more than just scouting; it was his first destination as Panthers' head coach after leaving Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He reflected on past challenges but also expressed optimism: "Really, the last... three offseasons have been kind of turbulent for me and my family... so I'm looking forward to that part."

Morgan emphasized adaptability in his role: "I would say expect the unexpected... You got to be a really good problem solver." His experience included managing trades and injuries while building a competitive roster.

As they look ahead, both leaders express confidence in their foundation. Canales noted, "Hopefully, it feels like it's their team," emphasizing player ownership within established frameworks. Meanwhile, Morgan highlighted talent acquisition: "I think it's just about bringing the best football players in here."

Returning to Mobile symbolizes both continuity and change for Morgan and Canales. Their experiences over the past year provide insights as they continue shaping the Panthers' future.
