The Carolina Panthers have re-signed quarterback Andy Dalton on a two-year contract, securing the veteran's presence for upcoming seasons. The 37-year-old was set to enter free agency in March before the team opted to retain him.
Dalton has been with the Panthers for two seasons, participating in nine games and recording nine touchdowns alongside six interceptions. His experience has been invaluable to younger quarterback Bryce Young, providing guidance and support in the quarterbacks' room.
Young expressed his appreciation for Dalton's mentorship: "Me and Andy are super close," he said. "From when I first got here, just being able to talk with him through things, him having perspective on a situation that I had never been a part of, I was always leaning on him."
Dalton demonstrated his capabilities last season by stepping in as a starter for five games during Young's early struggles. He notably led the team to victory against the Raiders with an impressive performance of 319 yards and three touchdowns.
Over his 14-season career spanning teams like the Bengals, Cowboys, Bears, Saints, and Panthers, Dalton has accumulated significant stats: 39,500 passing yards with 253 touchdowns and 150 interceptions. This positions him at 26th place on both all-time passing yards and passing touchdowns lists.
Dalton's ranking places him ahead of several Hall of Famers such as Jim Kelly and Steve Young in passing yards and just behind Dan Fouts in touchdowns.
