The Carolina Panthers have reached an agreement with veteran cornerback Mike Jackson, who was initially brought to the team during last year's training camp. The 28-year-old Jackson, acquired in a trade with the Seattle Seahawks for seventh-round pick Michael Barrett, quickly secured a starting position and played nearly every snap throughout the season.
Jackson's performance on the field was notable as he recorded 1,205 defensive snaps, accounting for 99 percent of the team's total defensive plays. This placed him second in the league for defensive snaps, only behind his teammate Xavier Woods who played all 1,218 snaps.
Playing alongside Pro Bowl cornerback Jaycee Horn, Jackson managed to secure two interceptions and made 76 tackles over the course of last year. Horn praised Jackson's intelligence and ability to anticipate plays: "It's been good playing with Mike," Horn said. "I've been saying all year he's one of the smartest guys I've been around. Just the way you break down film and know what's coming before it happens, so I learned a lot from him, and you know I'd love to play with him again next year. I'd definitely love to run it back with Mike."
With this new agreement in place, both players will have the opportunity to continue their partnership on defense.
