The Carolina Panthers have reportedly reached an agreement with defensive tackle Tershawn Wharton, previously with the Kansas City Chiefs. This move is part of the team's efforts to bolster their defense during the free agency negotiating period. The deal will become official when the league year begins on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
Wharton, who joined the NFL as an undrafted free agent, has spent five seasons with the Chiefs and now brings his experience and two Super Bowl rings to Charlotte. Known for his resilience and skill, Wharton has been a key player in Kansas City's defensive lineup.
Hailing from University City, Missouri, Wharton's journey began at Missouri S&T, a Division II school. He gained attention at the East-West Shrine Game and chose to sign with the Chiefs due to proximity to home. His time in Kansas City saw him play 85 games, including postseason appearances, and he recorded 17.5 sacks over this period.
In 2022, Wharton faced a setback with an ACL tear after only five games but returned strong for another Super Bowl victory with the Chiefs against the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl LVIII.
Notably, both Patrick Mahomes and Chris Jones extended their congratulations to Wharton on social media following news of his signing with the Panthers.
Off the field, Wharton is known for his passion for custom sneakers, often showcasing unique designs tailored for specific occasions or seasons.
