Tre’von Moehrig, safety for the Carolina Panthers, has been named the NFC Defensive Player of the Week. The announcement was made after Moehrig delivered a strong performance that included an interception, five tackles—two of them for loss—and two passes defended.

Reflecting on his achievement, Moehrig said: “I’ve always been confident in myself, and not try to put a leg on my abilities, but it was a team effort, man. I mean, I caught the ball, but all 11 affect the play. So, big shout out to the guys.”

Moehrig is notable as the third NFL player this season—and first defensive back—to record at least two tackles for loss, two passes defended, and an interception in one game. He was also the only NFL player with both two tackles for loss and an interception during Week 9.

Signed by Carolina as a free agent earlier this year, Moehrig becomes the first Panther to win Defensive Player of the Week since linebacker Frankie Luvu in 2023. He is also the first safety from Carolina to earn this honor since Roman Harper did so in 2014. Only three other Panthers safeties have previously received this recognition: Harper (2014), Deon Grant (2002), and Pat Terrell (1996).

This season, four different Panthers have earned Player of the Week honors: running back Rico Dowdle (Offensive) in Week 5; kicker Ryan Fitzgerald (Special Teams) in Week 6; punter Sam Martin (Special Teams) in Week 7; and now Moehrig (Defensive) in Week 9. The Panthers join Tampa Bay as one of only two teams with four different players receiving these weekly awards.

Additionally, Carolina joins San Francisco as one of just two teams to have had winners for Offensive Player of the Week, Defensive Player of the Week, and Special Teams Player of the Week during this season.

The last time Carolina had four or more weekly award winners was in 2017 when five players were recognized.
