When Panthers wide receiver Xavier Legette started celebrating touchdowns by riding Dolla Bill last season, it reminded fans of a similar celebration from the past. Former cornerback Josh Norman had his own equine celebrations with his horse Delta during his time with the Panthers.

Norman, who gained fame for his performances in 2015, including four interceptions and two touchdowns, was back in Charlotte this summer. He met Legette for the first time and shared stories about their common interests and South Carolina roots.

“It’s wild that this was the first time I met X, man, that’s kind of crazy,” Norman said. “But I’ve seen the clips, and I’ve seen him on that horse, so I know what he can do.”

Both players share a passion for riding and hail from South Carolina. Norman grew up in Greenwood and played at Coastal Carolina while Legette is from Mullins.

Their conversation went beyond football as they discussed their backgrounds and celebrated each other’s achievements. Legette recalled Norman’s memorable battles with Giants wideout Odell Beckham Jr., which became legendary moments in Panthers history.

“I watched him combatting with Odell Beckham back in the day,” Legette said of Norman. “If it was up to me to guess about him, man, he’s from South Carolina, so I know he got something to him.”

The meeting allowed both players to connect over their shared experiences and mutual respect for each other’s style on and off the field.
