The Charlotte-Mecklenburg Continuum of Care is applying for a more than $500,000 grant that it will use to fund to support agencies and their projects.

The $506,479 grant the organization seeks comes from the Emergency Solution Grant program, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Continuum of Care said in an Aug. 26 release.

Agencies seeking some of the funding have to submit a letter of interest by Thursday, Sept. 24.

An essential eligibility requirement is that the applicant must help Mecklenburg County residents with a focus on housing and homelessness, the release said. The agency must also use the Homeless Management Information System or the CoC's Coordinated Entry System.

Eligible projects include street outreach, homelessness prevention, homelessness management information system, rapid re-housing assistance and emergency shelter.

According to the release, projects like these will help prevent families from becoming homeless or re-house them. They will also assist in operating homeless shelters and engage with the homeless on the streets.
