City of Charlotte issued the following announcement on Aug. 20.
The City of Charlotte announced on Friday that its Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Transition Plan is now available for public review and comment through Monday, Sept. 20.
The City of Charlotte is committed to providing equal access to its public programs, services, facilities and activities for all residents, especially for those with disabilities.
The city's ADA Transition Plan is a document the city will use as guidance to become a more accessible city for all residents and visitors.
To provide feedback on the plan through Sept. 20, residents can visit City of Charlotte ADA Transition Plan Public Input or email charlotteada@charlottenc.gov.
Transition Plan Process
In January 2019, the city selected Altura Solutions LLC, to assess and develop an transition plan for all city-owned facilities, services, programs and activities, ensuring compliance with federal and state laws.
In compliance with the requirements of Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and Title II of the ADA, the intent of the plan is to:
- Identify physical and communicative barriers in the City of Charlotte's public facilities that could limit the accessibility of the city's programs, services or activities to individuals with disabilities
- Describe the methods to be used to make the facilities, programs, services or activities accessible
- Provide a schedule for addressing any barriers to achieve better accessibility
- Identify the public officials responsible for implementation of the plan.
After community input has been received and incorporated, the plan will be presented to the Charlotte City Council for adoption and approval.
