Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department issued the following announcement on Aug. 30.

It takes a very special person to be a police officer. Bravery, sacrifice and many other qualities are necessary to take up the calling. Bravery and sacrifice are the reasons Officer Bradley Schwob and Officer Parker Braxley are being recognized.

Officer Schwob and Braxley arrived at a vehicle crash to find the entire front of one of the vehicles fully engulfed by fire. Several people were watching as the vehicle fire grew in size. Officer Schwob learned someone was still unconscious inside the vehicle. Officers Schwob and Braxley didn’t hesitate. They ran to the vehicle and pulled the passenger to safety, saving his life.
