Following a record month for gun seizures, CMPD is not slowing down. Over the weekend, officers reported nine firearms seized in two different incidents in the Central Division.
On Friday June 10, an officer was responding to an accident on I-77 when she observed a driver acting suspiciously, concealing items in a black hoodie. When approached, the occupants of the vehicle fled the scene. Officers located the vehicle in the 700 block of North Graham Street and discovered all the occupants had concealed firearms. Two juveniles and two adults were arrested, all of them from Stanley County. Four firearms were seized, with three of them having been reported stolen.
On Sunday June 12, officers responding to a separate disturbance call for service observed a Dodge Charger doing burnouts and doughnuts at the intersection of Bland & Church Streets in plain view of the officers. Three occupants of the vehicle were hanging outside each passenger window. Officers attempted to make a traffic stop and the vehicle took off. It traveled out of the officers’ presence before striking a wall on Morehead Street below I-277. The occupants jumped and ran from the vehicle and were all apprehended. Officers found five firearms inside the vehicle, two of them stolen. They also found over 90 grams of marijuana, multiple containers of THC liquid and multiple bags of THC candy. Officers additionally seized the Dodge Charger.
Thankfully no bystanders or pedestrians were struck by the vehicle in this incident. Two 19-year-old suspects and an 18-year-old suspect face multiple charges including possession of a stolen firearm.
Great work all around by officers to hold dangerous individuals responsible and get firearms off the streets.
