Amazing work by CMPD’s South Division. Last month, the YMCA of Greater Charlotte's Hemby Program Center went on lockdown due to officers tracking a stolen vehicle nearby. Officers stayed for several hours and made sure all the students felt safe. The next day, officers returned to the facility along with CMPD’s helicopter to put on an aerial show for the students. Officers also handed out stickers, coloring books and cups. The children got an up close look at officers’ patrol vehicles. YMCA staff responded by writing a letter and dropping off cookies and brownies back at the division office. The YMCA says their children learned that CMPD officers are not only here to keep them safe, but that they are friends in the community. Thank you YMCA of Greater Charlotte and the Hemby Center!
