From February 14, 2023 post.
Congratulations to our February Officers and Civilian of the Month!!! Their outstanding work was recognized this morning by CMPD Command Staff.
Detective Andrew Key of the Cyber Crimes Unit has been part of three incredibly work-intensive cases that have resulted in numerous charges and subsequent federal indictments.
North Division Officer Michael Travis was first on the scene of a double shooting at Northlake Mall. Officer Travis ran in the direction of gunfire and confronted the shooter, de-escalating the situation and calmly getting the suspect into custody without incident.
University City Division Officers Richard Millsaps and Marshall Chandler, along with Sergeant Jared Whitner, de-escalated a very dangerous situation involving a suicidal subject who, while receiving medical treatment, pointed a firearm at officers. The officers reacted quickly, pulling the suspect’s arm down. The officers were able to get the gun away from the suspect and place him into custody with minimal force used.
Westover Division Detective David Haulsee submitted an overlooked piece of evidence that led to the identification of a suspect who committed auto-related crimes all across Charlotte. The suspect has since been arrested and charged with multiple crimes.
Police Investigation Tech Charles Footman went above and beyond to provide help to a stranded elderly woman who was visiting Charlotte. He bought her food and helped her contact family members and find a way home.
Finally, CMPD posthumously recognized Independence Division Officer Dean Lauber. Officer Lauber passed away in December after serving CMPD for over 20 years, most of them as a patrol training officer. He was a mentor and friend to countless officers within the CMPD. Officer Lauber was represented this morning by family members.
Congratulations to all of our Employees of the Month whose tireless work is greatly appreciated!
